If I remember correctly, the "30 seconds of fun" concept also appears in the "making of" materials included with the Halo 2 Special Edition.

Thanks very much for this, it's an awesome read, I'll bookmark this place. It's nice to think people are writing about games that are nearing 3 years old - it's clear then that it's a critical eye, rather than enthusiast or media eye.

And not that I'd expect you to study OTHER people playing Halo, I just find it hard to read why it's great based on the way you play it, which I do not. Writing about games, is of course difficult enough already, and it was interesting to read what you'd deduced was great about it anyway.

Now I am going to read your inFamous post!

Kyle

The "30 seconds of fun" quote appears to have been coined by Damian Isla at a developer conference in Brighton.

The vehicles in Halo really enhance the intentionality and improvisation cycle, especially when they're enemy controlled. The game starts you in a bad situation (being attacked by a vehicle), then lets you reverse it mid-fight (hijacking). They're definitely what I look for first in the "scouting" phase.
