I understand your issues with Games for Windows Live but, to be fair, the game's multiplayer platform is Games for Windows Live, not Steam. So while Steam not fully supporting the multiplayer features is annoying (especially for a game which requires Steam), the lack of Dawn of War 2's full support for Steam the in-game multiplayer is understandable.

Games for Windows Live is actually a pretty nice service; the biggest gripe I have with it is the one-hundred person limit for friends lists (which I'm constantly at the limit of). I don't plan to create a new account for my PC games, so having to add friends that I'll be playing Dawn of War 2 with to the same list that I use for all of my Xbox 360 games is a bit annoying. In my case, there is a nice overlap between those people, but there's no way that's going to be the case for everyone.

Nice write up - I enjoy the direction of the online - managing small, powerful squads. I do wish I could upgrade them as DoWI to make the numbers a bit larger. Squads of 6 & 8 would be nice.

I've only played a handful of online games, and those are mostly against the PC - Windows Live is essentially ruining the experience for me. Finding a game is a real pain - I'm a PC gamer - so I have a Steam Friends list, NOT a Windows Live friends list. Its a PITA to get my friends name and attempt to arrange games over Windows Live - its trash.

I know its a beta, but I doubt they are going to rework the UI for the online component - ie; when you create a game, once inside, it doesn't tell you the name - if your chatting with someone on Steam, you might forget. Its just bad UI design.

Anyways, enough complaining - good write up - maybe I'll see you online!

FOR THE EMPEROR! heh
